Let it snow!

Cimg2541
As Christmas makes way for the New Year, I am taking down the Christmas decorations and getting out my snowman collection. The house is so beautiful at Christmas with the decorations and sparkle of white lights, so the snowmen make a nice transition. With a few of the lights left out and a bit of greenery yet, it is still festive and fits well with the blanket of snow we should enjoy for the next couple of months. With the bustle of Christmas behind us, the hubby and kids on a winter break, we are sleeping in, enjoying comfort food, and catching our breath. I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season and enjoying the company of those you love.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas day is my favorite day of the year! After a giant farmhouse breakfast of bacon, a sausage, potato and cheese omelet, and biscuits and gravy, the whole family gathers in our live-in kitchen around the tree and we take turns opening gifts. It takes forever, but we really enjoy watching each person open their gifts and we all just hang out and enjoy each others company.

Taking notes from previous chow lines, Kristy wasted no time getting in line!

Michael got several "Bionicles", which are like Legos that you put together to make these robot looking guys. Derek got a "Transformer" Robot head. It changes your voice to a robot voice and is one of those toys that adults take away from the kids and play with!

Later that afternoon, we all went over to Patricia's and opened gifts there. Patricia's brother Richard serenaded us with piano music that was awesome! With no music to read, he played it all by ear and memory. He truly has many talents!

Richard takes a flight back to California on Friday and we will all certainly miss him. Rumor has it he will be back though for Patricia's Meteor Festival in July!

Feeling a little holiday stress?

Cimg2442
...Then there's nothing like taking your aggressions out on a role of paper towels. Patricia stands back as "Sweet Pea" (ha, sweet?) makes it known to the 'Bounty' that  she is angry and isn't going to take it any more! We aren't sure what the "it" is, but certainly we took notice.

Look who came to chore!

Cimg2521
Jen gives Big Tom a squeeze as he fronts up to help with chores. He made the mistake last night of telling me he was bored!
Cimg2522
We decided the donkey barn would be the perfect place to put him to work. And work he did! With a smile on his face and grumblings kept to minimum, (something about another word for donkeys and poo), the donkeys had a new crib in  record time.

Gracie suggested Tom try breakfast first.

Rotten Richie

Cimg2518
"OH MY", said Patricia! "It's my Rotten Red-Headed Older Brother!" Meet Richard Barber, fours years older and always will be! Rich flew out from Petaluma, CA to spend Christmas with his little sis. But where's the red hair now? Patricia and I are trying to talk Rich into some red hair dye, just for old time sake!

Happy Birthday Kristy!

Cimg2514
Celebrating with family over Chinese food and homemade M&M Cookies, Kristy opened gifts and we talked about how she came into this world 22 years ago. She scored some Victoria's Secret perfume,  a leather planner and jewelry. Jennifer filled a few cookies with vanilla frosting and her and I threw down M&M Cookie creme pies! Mmm...it was good night!

Where are my presents??

Dsc02068
Whenever you visit Jennifer, this little face often pops out to say hello. Scrambling around under the Christmas tree, poor little Petrie can't find his name on anything! Get this ferret a present Jennifer!

12 Geese a-laying.

Cimg2478
With only narrow paths to navigate through following the ten or so inches of snow that fell last weekend, getting chores done takes some ingenuity. Thinking the paths were made specifically for them, the geese are not anxious to get out of our way! Never one to actually "cook" a goose, they win out and Jen and I get snow covered.

Readers Ask...

Cimg2485
What is Patricia's favorite room?" Well, at Meteor Ridge Farm where Patricia lives, her favorite room is the "Day Room". This room is right off the kitchen and formal dining room. It is where Patricia comes every morning to sit and drink her tea, think, rock, and look out over her wide expanse of lawn. She watches as squirrels cavort in the feeders as bright red cardinals eat the seed they drop to the ground. It is where she can see guests as they drive up to the house, but most importantly, it is where Patricia sits and imagines and forms stories to write about!

If you were to visit Patricia, she would invite you to sit in the rocker opposite hers and she will regale you with stories from her childhood. Meteor Ridge Farm is currently decorated for the holidays, with Christmas trees in nearly every room. Patricia decorates with an eclectic collection of primitives, family heirlooms and antiques as well as reproductions. Truly a delight at Christmas time and every time, you can see Meteor Ridge for yourself during "Meteor Festival" in July and Patricia's "Holiday Home Tour" in early December. Watch the Appearances section and Patricia's web site for more information on our events.

At Patricia's studio, located just up the street, Patricia's favorite spot is a rocking chair in the great room (where she illustrates all those great children's picture books). With over a dozen cats to play with, Patricia often takes a break from work to play "stick" with the felines.

GAW Center Christmas.

Cimg2454
Patricia welcomed guests last night to visit with Santa and herself as lights twinkled, music played and the snow began to fall. Shown here is a little fella getting his book signed! Jennifer looks on as little tyke after little tyke was all smiles after visiting with Santa, eyes wide with all things Christmas! I'm thinking she is secretly thinking, "Don't you dare touch my sugar cookie!"
Cimg2449
Good friend Becky delighted visitors with her collection of Christmas puppets as the line for Santa grew. With Santa, Patricia, popcorn, sugar cookies, Christmas music, sing-a-longs and good friends, we had a wonderful time!
