With the kids entry impassable most of the time, we took a field trip to Target today, picked up some shelving on sale and set about to organize the hallway. Derek learned how to assemble and was happy to help. Loaded with these shelves and bins to go with, we can now actually see floor. See mom smile.
The Amarylis is actually up to 8 blooms now! The Paperwhites are ready to burst through as well. With frigid temps outside, it is comforting to glance over at the blooms and know that Spring will soon be here! With seed catalogs filling the mailbox, plans are being laid for what will be started by seed and what place they will have in the gardens. This year, we have a "potager" or kitchen garden just off the driveway, up near the house. I am anxious to get it planted with herbs and veggies for fresh eating. Although a few months away, planting season always seems to sneak up on me and I am trying to be better prepared for the onslaught of the spring to-do's!

This gal is a barn cat that has discovered the magic of a doggy door. You can't really tell in the picture, but we named her Bat Ears because her ears are so big. Not at all stupid, if the temperature drops below 30 something, we can usually find the stowaway hidden somewhere in the house. The husband warned me that the dog door would let everything in and nothing would go out. I hate it when he's right!

My "Sassy" girl, a 14 year old Morgan and retired barrel racer, she doesn't take kindly to walking and goes from zero to sixty in nothing flat. Probably where the phrase, "Hold on to your horses" came from!
This is "CoCo", a Nubian with some great ears! I call her "CoCo Puff!"
Brothers "Wyatt" and "Junior" don't mind the frigid temps at all; in fact they often sleep out in it, becoming part of the landscape when it snows.

With bitter cold temperatures we didn't stay out long, but falling backward into 18" of new fallen snow proved too much to resist for Caylie, who had just helped out with morning chores. Unbelievably, they are calling for a mid-winter thaw and predicting temperatures of 56 degrees by Monday. And so goes the phrase, "If you don't like the weather in Michigan, just wait a minute!".

Woke up to a good 12" or more of the white stuff. We will spend our morning digging out once again. The blessing is that the hubby is home to help! It is so beautiful though. The snow is a wet snow, sticking to everything and perfect for snowmen building! After the work, there will certainly be play. For us "old folks" though, it will be work, "nap", then play. I am certain!
When the snowfall is wet and heavy laden, it is hard on the evergreens. Certainly it is a sight to behold with everything completely covered in a blanket of new fallen snow.
Counting my blessings there is a 4-wheel drive truck under there!
