"Bonnie's Crazy Cabbage!"

Cimg2903
"Bonnie Plants" has a cabbage seed called 'O-S CROSS', with the O-S standing for OVERSIZED! This cabbage plant can grow to 40 pounds or more. Planted in it's recommended 4' diameter space, Derek will water, feed, fertilize and de-bug this soon to be giant specimen. He started the seed at school as a science project and we are entered into a contest to see who can grow the biggest cabbage in the state of Michigan. With a winner picked from every state, Bonnie Seeds will award a $1000.00 scholarship to the lucky winning contestants. With a maturing timetable of 10 to 12 weeks, we'll keep you posted on it's progress!

Greetings!

After searching high and low for Curly Sue's babies, we finally gave up. Chloe found her though and low and behold, curled up in about the smallest container she could find, there she was with three new babies! This can is no bigger than a dinner plate. Located in the hot house, there are plenty of other roomier containers to choose from, but we left her alone with her choice. She is well protected, that is for sure, and you would never think to look for her where she is! With barely room for her, we can't imagine her nursing three kittens, but they are fat and healthy and I can't wait to see where she moves them next!

Score!

With Patricia home for a minute from tour, we met up at the Skate Ranch with family and friends to further celebrate Michael's birthday. Jennifer spotted the "Hello Kitty" and immediately started asking where we got it. Lo and behold, who won the first game of chance? The skate rink also threw in a free skate pass. See Jen smile.

Caylie and Derek, along with all the other little people, fearlessly skated and fell without so much as a second thought. Like rubber,  they'd bounce back up after a fall like it's a natural reflex.  Somewhere as I merged into adulthood, I lost that reflex, and with it the fear then that needing it was someplace I did not want to be. Having not been on skates for well over a year now, I had a shaky start. Being much heavier and farther from the ground than the kids around me, I proceeded cautiously. After an hour and what felt like shin splints coming on, we ate pizza and cake and called it a day! Jennifer is telling me we need to do this more often.  Naturally the  kids agree. Oh my.

What party is complete without Silly String? Caylie took the brunt of the silliness!

Remember Big Head Todd? After having him a whole 9 days, he promptly found a large rubber dog toy in the shape of a pacifier more than appealing and ate it. I know that because after a very ill dog turned up at 4:30 am, necessitating an immediate vet visit, it turned up on $140.00 worth of x-rays, in his stomach.  What goes in, must come out, so the waiting game is on. Two days at the vet, and a few medications later, he is good to go. This too shall pass, we hope, or surgery is involved. With spring break on the horizon, I am wondering if the vet whispered sweet dreams of European vacations in his ears. I am hoping that his loyalties go to the hand that feeds him and he passes some rubber sooner than later!

A Quilted Treasure!

2008_03_31_002
I just had to share a photograph of a quilt that was recently completed by Linda Smith in Southern California. Taken from Patricia's book, Babushka's Mother Goose, this quilt is truly magnificent! Linda had used inks with her classroom students to make a class quilt, but had never actually used them herself. Machine quilted pretty heavily in many areas, she left the quilt and pillow with minimal quilting. She even quilted over her index finger at one point, expertly avoiding bleeding on the quilt!

Kudos to you Linda Smith. This is absolutely a stunning piece of art.

Sorry about the sideways picture, but I wanted to include the close up.
