A Quilted Treasure!

2008_03_31_002
I just had to share a photograph of a quilt that was recently completed by Linda Smith in Southern California. Taken from Patricia's book, Babushka's Mother Goose, this quilt is truly magnificent! Linda had used inks with her classroom students to make a class quilt, but had never actually used them herself. Machine quilted pretty heavily in many areas, she left the quilt and pillow with minimal quilting. She even quilted over her index finger at one point, expertly avoiding bleeding on the quilt!

Kudos to you Linda Smith. This is absolutely a stunning piece of art.

Sorry about the sideways picture, but I wanted to include the close up.

Marlene Cutcher visits Hensley's!

Cimg2675
Marlene Cutcher and "Skoob" the library elf, came all the way from Cambridge, Wisconsin to visit Union City, home of Patricia Polacco and Hensley's Variety Store. Luckily the famous John Soncrant, owner and dearest person around, was in the store to welcome them! Skoob, (books spelled backward) visited many other sites in Union City as well, including the Graves House from Patricia's story book!

Don't forget you can have an opportunity to visit with Patricia Polacco and her home town for Meteor Festival, this July 12th! For more information, look under "Meteor Festival" right here on this blog!

All Aboard!

This would make a great contest photo to "Name the Caption!"

I put PP on a train yesterday morning, heading off for "The Great Frozen Tundra", otherwise known as Milwaukee, WI where she will do the WSRA, area schools and bookstores. If you are in the Milwaukee area, check out the bookstore appearances under "Patricia Polacco Appearances" on this blog and stop in and say hello!

Feeling a little holiday stress?

...Then there's nothing like taking your aggressions out on a role of paper towels. Patricia stands back as "Sweet Pea" (ha, sweet?) makes it known to the 'Bounty' that  she is angry and isn't going to take it any more! We aren't sure what the "it" is, but certainly we took notice.

Rotten Richie

Cimg2518
"OH MY", said Patricia! "It's my Rotten Red-Headed Older Brother!" Meet Richard Barber, fours years older and always will be! Rich flew out from Petaluma, CA to spend Christmas with his little sis. But where's the red hair now? Patricia and I are trying to talk Rich into some red hair dye, just for old time sake!

Readers Ask...

Cimg2485
What is Patricia's favorite room?" Well, at Meteor Ridge Farm where Patricia lives, her favorite room is the "Day Room". This room is right off the kitchen and formal dining room. It is where Patricia comes every morning to sit and drink her tea, think, rock, and look out over her wide expanse of lawn. She watches as squirrels cavort in the feeders as bright red cardinals eat the seed they drop to the ground. It is where she can see guests as they drive up to the house, but most importantly, it is where Patricia sits and imagines and forms stories to write about!

If you were to visit Patricia, she would invite you to sit in the rocker opposite hers and she will regale you with stories from her childhood. Meteor Ridge Farm is currently decorated for the holidays, with Christmas trees in nearly every room. Patricia decorates with an eclectic collection of primitives, family heirlooms and antiques as well as reproductions. Truly a delight at Christmas time and every time, you can see Meteor Ridge for yourself during "Meteor Festival" in July and Patricia's "Holiday Home Tour" in early December. Watch the Appearances section and Patricia's web site for more information on our events.

At Patricia's studio, located just up the street, Patricia's favorite spot is a rocking chair in the great room (where she illustrates all those great children's picture books). With over a dozen cats to play with, Patricia often takes a break from work to play "stick" with the felines.

GAW Center Christmas.

Cimg2454
Patricia welcomed guests last night to visit with Santa and herself as lights twinkled, music played and the snow began to fall. Shown here is a little fella getting his book signed! Jennifer looks on as little tyke after little tyke was all smiles after visiting with Santa, eyes wide with all things Christmas! I'm thinking she is secretly thinking, "Don't you dare touch my sugar cookie!"
Cimg2449
Good friend Becky delighted visitors with her collection of Christmas puppets as the line for Santa grew. With Santa, Patricia, popcorn, sugar cookies, Christmas music, sing-a-longs and good friends, we had a wonderful time!

Union City's Holiday Parade.

You can't see us very well, but that is Patrica and I in her Vis-a-Vie, being pulled by "Bonnie", a beautiful Belgian.  Every Saturday following Thanksgiving, the Chamber of Commerce in town puts on a  Christmas Parade, with Santa pulling up the rear. Patricia and I threw "Beanie Babies" to the crowd and ended up being swarmed!
